This week I've been exploring textiles. I've been dieing and using the sewing machine to create colour and texture on the fabric informed by my leave patterns.

project statement for progress review

There’s Light
I began my project by looking around the city at patterns that caught my eye. I then began to look at the patterns and colours of the autumn leaves as they fell on the ground. They seemed to give decoration to the urban environment around them.  Through use of different materials I began to explore leaves and different types of leaves. I learned about their shape, form, texture and colour.
However my interest remained in the pattern of the leaves when vast amounts of them were placed together. I have always loved de luxurious nature of fabric and the patterns that are created on it. I hope to further my investigation in large scale patterns on fabrics, possibly incorporating print and instillation techniques.

colour

After my review I was advised to look at the real colours of the leaves and use real leaves to creat patterns witch is what I have done this week.

Polly Apfelbaum

Today I had my assessment. I think it went well as far as I could see. My tutor gave me a name of an artist called Polly Apfelbaum who he thought might help my work, well so far I'm inspired.. her work is amazing!!

I think her use of colour is great and the use of the natural day light to change the piece to her advantage.

This one is called the power puff girl. It is individually hand cut and died pieces of material place together to give the effect of the power puff girls red hair and there power and delicacy she has.

I love the shape of this.
